温哥华东选区国会议员关慧贞将在新民主党影子内阁中担任移民、难民和公民事务评论员。
关慧贞9岁从香港移民加拿大。她曾当选温哥华市议员,是温哥华历史上最年轻的市议员;后当选省议员,担任过不列颠哥伦比亚省新民主党内阁城镇事务厅长、妇女平等事务厅长和社区发展及合作厅长,也是该省历史上首位华裔厅长。
执政自由党政府的移民、难民和公民部长是麦家廉,官方反对党——保守党的移民、难民和公民事务评论员是Michelle Rempel。
新民主党在今年联邦大选中有44人当选,其中16人是首次当选。在大选前,该党有95个席位,是官方反对党。
