Spring is in the air in York Region

From a tranquil ferry ride to bustling Farmer’s Markets, there’s so much to experience in York Region this spring.

The sweet sound of birds chirping in the air, the rush of the spring thaw and nicer temperatures can only mean one thing - spring is in the air in York Region!

We survived the cold winter days but now it’s time to get outside and get active. There is plenty to see and do in York Region this spring. To help you get motivated and moving, we’re sharing our top ideas on things you can to do welcome spring and get out and enjoy York Region. So put down those tablets, tuck away your phones and discover the wonder and surprises nestled within the towns and cities of York Region.

Hit the trails: The warm temperatures and budding trees make for the perfect conditions to take a walk or hike through one of the many trails York Region has to offer. Nestled within the Oak Ridges Moraine, the Town of East Gwillimbury offers more than 30 parks and 24 kilometres of hiking trails or explore the more than 120 kilometres of trails available to the public within the York Regional Forest

Take a “rural” ride through the countryside: Throw on your helmet and take a ride through a slice of Dutch-style farmland right here in York Region. The Tour du Holland Bike Trail is a 68-kilometre ride that starts in the Township of King and offers a scenic ride through the countryside overlooking rich and lush vegetable fields – many of which grow the vegetables we enjoy here in York Region and beyond.

Brush up that golf swing: Feeling a little rusty after a long winter? Voted in the top-10 driving ranges in North America, the Markham Golf Dome located in the City of Markham offers 45 indoor driving staff and 60 outdoor stalls, complete with target greens, practice and putting greens and a teaching area. Now there’s no excuse for a poor golf game.

Visit a Farmer’s Market: Is there anything fresher than fruit and vegetables from a local farmer? Starting in May and running through to October, the Farmer’s Market in the Riverwalk Commons in the Town of Newmarket is the place to be every Saturday morning. With farm fresh product, home-made baking and crafts and live music, it’s the perfect family outing to enjoy the spring air!

Fun in the Streets: Held the first Sunday in June, the Aurora Chamber Street Festivalin the Town of Aurora is a bustle of activity with over 500 unique vendors, entertaining street performers, live music, gourmet food offerings and more. It’s the perfect excuse to drag the kids off the couch and into to sun.

‘All Aboard” the Ferry to Georgina Island: Discover Georgina Island with the Georgina Island Cultural Tours in the Town of Georgina. Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy walking, hiking or biking on Nanabush Trails, which are the pride of Georgina Island First Nation.

Take a walk through the trees: Take a daring walk above the trees at Tree Top Village in the Town of Whitchuch-Stouffville. Bravely climb from tree house to tree house, crawl through tunnels and unleash the little adventurer inside of you.

Take a dip: Can’t wait for the blistering hot days of summer? Go for a swim at the Wave Pool – York Regions’ only indoor wave pool in the City of Richmond Hill! Jump in the waves, lounge on water mats or relax in the on-deck sauna – you’ll have so much fun you’ll forget that it’s not even summer yet!

Hop on the Subway: Haven’t had a chance to check out the new subway station in the City of Vaughan. Pack a lunch and head down to Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station – where you end up is up to you!
