STEALING OR DAMAGING ELECTION SIGNS ARE CRIMINAL OFFENCES
During this election period, York Regional Police would like to remind citizens that stealing or damaging election signs could result in criminal charges.
As many residents have noticed, there are election signs that have been placed on lawns and in public places by candidates, right across the region. York Regional Police often receives complaints about election signs being removed or damaged.
We are reminding citizens that stealing election signs could result in a criminal charge of Theft. If election signs are intentionally damaged or vandalized, the person responsible could face a criminal charge of Mischief.
If residents find that an election sign has been placed on their property without their permission, they should immediately contact the candidate’s office so the sign can be removed. |
