Toronto's largest New Year's Eve celebration to take place at Nathan Phillips Square
The program for New Year's Eve at Nathan Phillips Square was announced today and features a stellar lineup on December 31. This event will be the finale of TO Canada with Love, the City of Toronto's year-long celebration of Canada's 150th birthday.
"I encourage everyone to come out to Toronto's largest New Year's Eve event to ring in 2018," said Mayor John Tory. "This fun, free and family-friendly celebration will make the evening a special one for all."
"Our New Year's Eve event is a fitting end to Toronto’s impressive Canada 150 program," said Councillor Michael Thompson (Ward 37 Scarborough Centre), Chair of the City's Economic Development Committee. "It’s a great opportunity for Canadians to get together to celebrate the end of a remarkable era and welcome in the future."
The celebration will feature talent that showcases Ontario's cultural and artistic diversity. A special DJ set by Hamilton's internationally acclaimed electro-pop artist Jessy Lanza and live music from Toronto's dancehall/soul sensations Bonjay will be complemented by Anishnaabe dance artist Nimkii Osawamick, performative producer OBUXUM, and DJ sets from Nino Brown (Yes Yes Y'all) and Classic Roots. Other activities will include a skating party sponsored by Tim Hortons and special visuals by Roxanne Luchak. The event will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display at midnight. This event is alcohol-free and will begin at 8 p.m.
