Vacancy for Office of Councillor in City of Toronto's Ward 44 Scarborough East to be filled by appointment 

At its May 26 meeting, Toronto City Council decided the vacant office of Councillor Ward 44 Scarborough East will be filled by appointment. This appointment will fill the position until the end of the current term of City Council, November 30, 2018.

To be considered for this position, the candidates must be: 
• a Canadian citizen
• 18 years of age or older
• a resident of the City of Toronto, or own or rent property in the City of Toronto (or be the spouse of the owner or renter)
• not legally prohibited from voting, or from holding municipal office.

An information session will be held on Wednesday, June 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Council Chamber at the Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Dr., for anyone interested in being considered for the appointment. 

Interested individuals must complete a Declaration of Qualification, Consent of Nominee and provide identification showing name, signature and qualifying address within the City of Toronto. Forms will be available at the information session, online at http://www.toronto.ca/ward44vacancy and in-person at the City Clerk's Office at Scarborough Civic Centre, 3rd floor and Elections Services, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W., 1st floor north.

The deadline for filing an application is 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19 at the City Clerk’s Office, at the Scarborough Civic Centre, 3rd floor and Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W. The forms must be signed in person before a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits.

City Council will meet on Wednesday, June 28 at 9:30 a.m.in the Council Chamber at Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W., to hear from applicants, ask questions of applicants and vote to appoint a person to fill the vacancy. 

Applicants are welcome to submit letters, biographies or related documents to be considered by City Council in support of their candidacy, but please note these will be made available to the public including the media. All forms and documents submitted by the applicant are a matter of public record.
