Over this past weekend, 15 motorists were charged with impaired-related offences, with over half of those drivers blowing more than twice the legal limit of alcohol.
Between Friday, December 16 and Sunday, December 18, 2016, 13 men and two women were charged with alcohol-related driving offences, including one that resulted from a motor vehicle collision, seven from general patrol or R.I.D.E. spot checks and seven from calls made to police by concerned citizens.
Of the 15 motorists that were charged, eight of them blew in excess of 150mls and one person refused to provide a breath sample.
On Sunday, December 18, 2016, York Regional Police received a 9-1-1 call from a citizen that had observed a possible impaired driver. The caller advised that they were following a car that was driving in the area of Crestmount Boulevard and Weston Road with no headlights or taillights on. The citizen watched as the vehicle made a turn onto southbound Weston Road, driving in the northbound lanes. Several vehicles had to swerve to avoid the vehicle. The caller watched as the vehicle struck a median, then exited the roadway and parked in a plaza. When officers arrived they spoke with the driver who smelled of alcohol and advised police that she was looking for her office Christmas party, but couldn’t find it. She was placed under arrest and taken to #4 District Headquarters in the City of Vaughan for a breath test, where she blew nearly three times the legal limit of alcohol.
