外交部长迪翁于6月4日六四事件27周年之际发表声明，呼吁中国政府履行人权义务。

他在声明里说：“今天，加拿大人纪念天安门事件27周年。六四事件是发生于1989年6月4日的对手无寸铁和和平的平民的暴力镇压。”

“根据中国宪法，中国民众有言论自由、集会和结社的自由。监禁行使这些权利的人士违背中国国内和国际的人权义务。”

迪翁的声明：

“Today, Canadians commemorate the 27th anniversary of Tiananmen Square, the violent crackdown against unarmed and peaceful civilians that occurred on June 4, 1989.

“Under the Chinese constitution, Chinese citizens enjoy freedom of speech, assembly and association. The detention of individuals for exercising these rights runs counter to China’s domestic and international human rights obligations.

“Canada calls upon China to uphold all of its human rights obligations.”
