多伦多市政府宣布了16名泛美运动会火炬手名单。这16名火炬手都是为弱势群体倡权、服务社区的典范,是市政府“环保生活”(Live Green)、“公共卫生”(Public Health)、“市长社区安全”(Mayor's Community Safety)、“认同和影响”(Identity 'N' Impact) ,以及“平等和公平”(Access and Equity)等奖项的获奖者。
这些火炬手最年轻的只有16岁,最年长的为93岁。全国有3000多名火炬手。
多伦多市长庄德利说:“多伦多的16名火炬手是多伦多多元化的好例子,代表了我们这个伟大城市的精彩。”

Lawrence Alvarez lives on the Danforth and is the co-founder of the Toronto Tool Library.
Francis Atta lives in North York and is a youth advocate working at the Toronto Catholic District School Board and Covenant House.
Etobicoke resident Cynthia Berringer was a competitive swimmer for 15 years representing Canada at the 2009 IPC Short Course Para-Swimming Championships in Brazil and at the 2011 Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Championships in Alberta.
Angela Brackett of Scarborough is the founder of the Safe Walk Program, in which volunteers escort up to 80 children to school each day.
Anne-Marie Chatteron is a Grade 10 student who lives in Scarborough and is a volunteer at the Fork York Historic Site as a greeter and tour guide.
Ryan Dyment lives on the Danforth and is a co-founder of the Toronto Tool Library.
Scarborough resident Lillie Johnson is the founder of Sickle Cell Association of Ontario and was instrumental in advocating for the inclusion of sickle cell disease to newborn screening in the province.
Lynda Kosowan is the Executive Director of the Scarborough Women’s Centre, a resource centre that helps women live free from domestic violence. Kosowan currently lives on the Danforth.
Rob Lackie lives in the Roncesvalles area and is one of the founding directors of the Aboriginal Sport and Wellness Council of Ontario (ASWCO).
Rosemary Moodie, who lives in midtown Toronto, is a pediatrician and neonatologist who works at the Hospital for Sick Children and a clinic in Rexdale that serves a high-needs neighbourhood.
Justin Nadeau lives in downtown Toronto and is a Green Projects Team Leader with the Sustainability Office at the Toronto District School Board.
Kenn Richard is the founder and Executive Director of Native Child and Family Services of Toronto. Richard lives in the Christie Pits neighbourhood.
Etobicoke resident Nathaniel Rojas is currently involved in the Toronto Sports Leadership program and the City's Let's Get Coaching program, which is part of the City's Host City Showcase Program.
Martine Stonehouse lives in downtown Toronto and has worked with the Toronto District School Board for the past 32 years. She is an advocate for Toronto's transgender community.
Asif Syed is a client service attendant who provides assistance and guidance to young people who have a disability and live independently. Syed is a Scarborough resident.
Lucy Wang, who lives in North York, is currently a student at the University of Toronto and is an environmental advocate. |
